U.S. Census Bureau

National Data Sites

  • Data.gov
The purpose of Data.gov is to increase public access to high value, machine readable government datasets.

California Data Sites

  • Vital Signs
This data-driven website by MTC compiles dozens of indicators; each is presented with interactive visualizations that allow you to explore historical trends, examine differences between cities and counties, and even compare the Bay Area with other peer metropolitan areas.

  • FTP File Library
This FTP site, which contains most of the raw (but easy-to-use) Census data, is maintained by ABAG and MTC. Most of the data is from 1990 and 2000 Census.

  • California Department of Finance
The Demographic Research Unit of the California Department of Finance is designated as the single official source of demographic data for state planning and budgeting.
