    The U.S. Census Bureau's primary site for Census 2000 data. It contains tables and maps for all geographies to the block level. Data from the 1990 Census is also available.

    Profiles includes various demographic, social, economic, and housing characteristics for states, counties, places, metropolitan areas, and congressional districts. Provided by U.S. Census Bureau in pdf format.

  • American Community Survey (ACS)
    Part of the Census Bureau's plan to reengineer data collection in future censuses, ACS will collect demographic, social, and housing data from a national sample every year.
 
National Data Sites

    A national network of independent organizations, in partnership with the U.S. Census Bureau, working to provide local access to census data.

California Data Sites

  • FTP File Library
    This FTP site, which contains most of the raw (but easy-to-use) Census data, is maintained by ABAG and MTC.


  • California State Data Center
    The Demographic Research Unit of the California Department of Finance provides a variety of demographic data on the state of California, including census data.


  • Counting California
    Provides a variety of social science and economic data collected by California government agencies and made available through the California Digital Library and Library of California.


  • Los Angeles Area
    The Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) provides Census 2000 data for Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernadino, Riverside and Imperial counties.


  • Sacramento Area
    The Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG) provides Census 2000 data for El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento, Sutter, Yolo and Yuba counties.


  • San Diego Area
    The San Diego Association of Goverments (SANDAG) provides Census 2000 data, as well as other demographic data, for San Diego County.
